I tried something new again. I wanted a round pencil case, fairly simple to make. Consequently, it turned out to be an unlined pencil case. However, if you reinforce the fabric with interfacing (I used H250), it looks neat enough. You can also zigzag stitch if you wish.
What do you need?
- 2 pieces of fabric measuring 14 cm by 22 cm
- 2 pieces of interfacing measuring 14 cm by 22 cm
- 2 circles of fabric with a radius of 4.8 cm
- 2 circles of interfacing with a radius of 4.8 cm
- 2 pieces of piping tape approximately 32 cm long
Instructions
Iron the interfacing onto the fabric, both the circles and the rectangles. Attach the 2 pieces of fabric measuring 14 cm by 22 cm to the zipper. (Place the right side of the fabric on the right side of the zipper and sew right next to the zipper.) Iron flat, and then you can optionally topstitch on the right side of the fabric.
Fold the right sides of the fabric together and stitch along the long side 1 cm from the edge. Press the seam open; this ensures a nicer finish.
Attach the piping pieces to the pencil case in this way. Make sure to start at the bottom of the pencil case and let the ends overlap neatly.
How to do this, see here: How to sew in piping
