Cutting and Sewing
Step 1
Cut the fabrics as follows:
Fabric 1 (Outer)
2 pieces 15 x 15 cm (Base + Lid)
1 piece 32 x 9 cm (Bottom Edge)
1 piece 32 x 4 cm (Top Edge)
1 piece 6.5 x 11.5 cm (Back Panel)
1 piece 15 x 4 cm (Handle)
Fabric 2 (Lining)
2 pieces 15 x 15 cm (Base + Lid)
1 piece 32 x 9 cm (Bottom Edge)
1 piece 32 x 4 cm (Top Edge)
1 piece 6.5 x 11.5 cm (Back Panel)
Fabric 3 (Fleece)
2 circles 11 cm in diameter (Base + Lid)
1 piece 30 x 7 cm (Bottom Edge)
1 piece 30 x 2 cm (top edge)
1 x 4.5 x 9.5 cm (back panel)
Step 2
Iron the interfacing pieces onto the corresponding outer fabric pieces, centering them.
Step 3
For the base and lid, draw a line around the interfacing, 1 cm from the edge. Cut out the outer fabric along this line.
Sew around the circle, 0.75 cm from the outer edge, and trim the lining fabric back to the size of the outer fabric.
Step 4
Divide the base and lid into 4 equal sections and mark the corresponding aligning points on the outer edge.
Step 5
For the handle, fold the strip in half lengthwise and press. Unfold the strip and fold both outer edges to the center. Press again and topstitch close to the edge along the long edges to attach the handle.
Fold the handle in half crosswise and sew it on within the seam allowance of the lid.
Step 6
For the surrounding edge, place the outer fabric and the lining right sides together. Slide the zipper between them, aligning the edges so that the zipper's right side faces the outer fabric. Sew the fabric layers together, making sure to catch the zipper in the stitching.
Fold the two layers of fabric away from the zipper and stitch parallel to the zipper. Repeat the process on the opposite side.
Step 7
Cut the zipper flush with the edge and secure the end. Place the outer fabric piece for the zipper flap right sides together on the outer side of the garment and the lining fabric piece right sides together on the lining side.
Sew the zipper flap to both the outer and lining sides simultaneously, using a 1 cm seam allowance.
Step 8
Fold both sewn-on bridge pieces over and topstitch close to the edge. Sew the opposite outer edge of the bridge (outer side 9) to the other end of the edge (1 cm seam allowance) and close the edge into a ring.
On the bridge lining piece, fold the seam allowance to the wrong side and sew the bridge in place by hand. If you like, you can also topstitch close to the edge on this second side.
Step 9
Add four markings to the top and bottom edges of the ring. To do this, divide the ring into four equal sections. Close the bias tape around the top and bottom edges of the ring and sew it in place with a 0.75 cm seam allowance.
Insert the lid and base into the ring and sew them in place with a 1 cm seam allowance. Make sure the zipper is open when inserting the lid and base.
Fold the bias tape over the seam allowance and hand-stitch it to finish all raw edges. Turn the pouch right side out.
