How To Make A Diy Key Pouch

Since I'm often asked which pattern I use for my key pouches, I thought I'd write up a little tutorial for you. It's super easy and perfect for a quick and cute little gift.

 You'll need two pieces of fabric (mine are 13x13 cm, but you can make them larger depending on your needs), a length of continuous zipper that's a few centimeters longer than the fabric pieces, two pieces of webbing, and a key ring.

Then you separate the zipper and place it between the fabric pieces, right sides together (the lining fabric on the bottom, the outer fabric on top). The zipper teeth should be facing upwards.

This is what it looks like:

Do the same with the other half of the zipper.

Now turn the whole thing around.

Now, topstitch close to the zipper edge.

Then fold the fabric in half so you can determine the center line.

You could measure it, but I find this easier... :-)

Now fold the two long sides inwards (the lining fabric is on the outside).

If you also want a small tab on the outside, you can attach a piece of webbing or your label in the middle.

Sew over it once (I always sew over the middle piece a few times).

Then you thread the key ring onto the webbing and sew it on in the middle as well.

Cut off the excess ends (you could also finish the edges with an overlock machine). This is what it should look like.

Turn right once.

Then pull up the zipper.

Leave the zipper slightly open and turn the whole thing inside out again.

Now sew the bottom end.

And cut off the protruding edge again.

Turn over, shape the corners and - DONE!
