This design can also be made using a patchwork block (without the "meshwork" technique). In that case, you will need a piece of "pool carpet" (stiff, mesh-like interfacing/stabilizer) and a black lining fabric. Don't forget to quilt the layers together.

Instructions:
1. Create the 20 x 12 cm "meshwork" rectangle by cutting the fabric on the bias (into 18 mm-wide strips) and placing the strips onto the adhesive side of the black interfacing. See photo 1.

 5. Baste in place, centering it carefully at the bottom as shown in photo 5; the folded-over right-hand section should remain free.

6. Prepare template 3: finish the edges (serge or zigzag stitch), trim to size, fold in half, and insert the string, securing it with a stitch. Baste this piece onto the coin purse. See photo 6.

7. Attach the bias binding (3.5 cm wide) around the edge, as shown in photo 7.

8. Turn the piece right-side out, baste, and topstitch. Using a backstitch, sew by hand along the fold between points A and B, taking care not to catch the bottom layer. Sew on the Velcro. Everything is now complete. See photo 8.
