 And here’s how it works:

You will need:
2 pieces of fabric for the exterior, 13 x 23 cm
2 pieces of fabric for the interior (the exact size will be determined later; approx. 21 x 18 cm)
2 pieces of fabric for the narrow upper section, 5 x 18 cm
2 pieces of iron-on interfacing for reinforcement, 11 x 21 cm
2 pieces of iron-on interfacing for reinforcement, 3 x 16 cm
Zipper, approx. 18 cm long
Satin ribbon
One button
Fabric for the rosette (approx. 10 x 10 cm)

Cut out all fabric pieces and the interfacing, then iron the fusible interfacing onto the outer fabric (you may want to place a sheet of parchment paper in between to prevent the iron from sticking to the interfacing).

On one of the long sides of the large outer fabric piece, mark the center; then, make a mark 2.5 cm to the left and right of the center, and fold the fabric toward the middle at these marks.

Pin the narrow strip of fabric along this long side and sew it in place.

Press the edges open on the back. Follow steps 03, 04, and 05 for both sides.

For the inner fabric, place the finished piece on top, mark it, and cut it out (do this twice, or once using a double layer of fabric).

If desired, decorate the front with a ribbon.

Make a small tab: Cut a piece of fabric measuring approximately 4 x 8 cm, and press the edges toward the center. Topstitch along the sides. Fold the piece in half, position it in the center of one side of the ribbon, and pin it in place.

Place the zipper, right sides together, onto the front piece.

Place the inner fabric on top. Pin in place and stitch close to the edge. Repeat on the other side.

Topstitch close to the edge along the side of the zipper.

Place the two outer pieces and inner pieces right sides together and pin everything in place.

Sew all the way around – caution: be sure to open the zipper first, and leave an opening of approximately 7 cm on the side of the inner fabric for turning the piece right side out.

Measure 3 cm from each corner and make a mark.

At this mark, pull the corners apart and topstitch.

Now turn the whole thing right side out through the opening left for turning.

Finally, close the opening used for turning the piece right-side out using a sewing machine. 

For the rosette:

To make the rosette, cut out a circle of fabric (approx. 9 cm in diameter). Sew along the edge of the circle using large hand stitches.

Pull everything together.

Finally, sew the button and the satin ribbons onto the back, and attach the rosette to the little pouch with a few hand stitches.
