Tutorial for a very simple double pencil case. You can use it, like I did, for your sewing pens. Schoolchildren can also use it for their colored pencils on one side and their felt-tip pens on the other. Everyone can use it however they like. Just be aware that this pencil case isn't very large (open: 20/22 cm), but you're free to enlarge the dimensions to suit your needs. The process remains the same!
You will need:
Two 22/24.5 cm rectangles of thick fabric (e.g., suede) for the skeleton of the pencil case.
A 12/2 cm rectangle for the button placket in the same fabric.
Four 22/11 cm rectangles of cotton for the pockets.
Two 20 cm zippers.
45 cm of 1 cm wide braid (a little more to decorate the outside if desired).
A snap fastener or magnet.
-Fold the four pieces of the pockets in half lengthwise:
- Place the fold side along the closure
- Stitch and repeat, placing a second piece on the other side of the zipper. Repeat with the other zipper.
- Place the two pockets on one of the suede rectangles, placing them flush with the edge (there will be a space between the two pockets). I placed the two zippers head to tail, but you can sew them in the same direction:
- Hold the pockets in place with a zigzag stitch
- To hide the seam, stitch a braid along the edge of each pocket (this essential double stitching allows the pocket to be firmly fixed to the bottom)
- Overlock all around to hold the pockets in place.
- On the second rectangle of suede, sew the desired decorations. Fold the button placket in half. Stitch all around and secure it in the middle of one of the 22 cm edges. Place the female part of the snap fastener in the middle of the opposite edge, 3 cm from the edge.
- Place the two rectangles right sides together. Stitch all around, one centimeter from the edges, leaving an opening for turning:
- Notch the corners. Turn over. Close the opening and place the male part of the snap on the button tab.
Your double kit is complete!
