Today I'm sharing a simple tutorial: The Mix and Match Fabric Basket. Useful as a pocket organizer, to organize your sewing supplies, or for the pleasure of cute DIY storage.
To make your fabric basket, you'll need two 30 x 50 cm rectangles of different fabrics: choose either cotton fabrics for more flexibility, or thicker upholstery fabrics for better support.
Tip: If you're using cotton or a thin, soft fabric, you can line it with iron-on fabric for added support.
Fold your fabric in half, right sides together.
Pin and sew 1 cm from each side. Do not sew the top of the basket.
Press away the seams.
Fold the fabric seam to seam at the bottom, creating a point at the top.
Now you need to sew gussets to shape the fabric basket: mark and trace the base of a 14 cm triangle on each point of the fabric. Secure with pins and sew along the line.
Repeat each of the previous steps on the second fabric. Place the two fabric basket halves right sides together.
Sew 1 cm from the edge, leaving an opening to turn your work over.
Turn the fabric basket right side out using the opening. Close this opening with an invisible stitch and hold the two fabrics together by topstitching 0.5 cm from the edge.
Your fabric basket is now complete! You can combine several baskets of different sizes to create a beautiful storage set.
