DIY Zipper Makeup Bag Tutorial – Easy Sewing Pattern for Beginners - DIY Pouch Free Pattern.
Step 1: drawing the pattern
1. Draw a rectangle 23cm wide and 21cm high.
2. Draw a second horizontal line 4.5cm from the bottom edge, extending 5cm from the left and right edges of the rectangle.
3. Connect the ends of this last line to the top corners of your rectangle.
4. Add a 1cm seam allowance everywhere (except the top) and cut out. Voila, we have the basic pattern.
For the outer pockets, fold the top edge of your pattern piece over 5cm (see green line in photo 5). This will create a second pattern piece.
Step 2: Cut the fabric
What do you need?
1 = 2x your complete pattern in outer fabric
2 = 2x your complete pattern in lining fabric
3 = 2x your complete pattern in H630 interfacing (cut off 1cm from the top edge)
4 = 2x your pleated pattern in outer fabric
5 = 2x a rectangle of outer fabric measuring 4x9cm (= zipper flaps)
6 = 25cm zipper
7 = 30cm piping
Step 3: The method
1a. Iron the interfacing onto both outer fabric pieces.
1b. At the same time, iron the short edges of the zipper flaps 1 cm and then fold them in half and iron them flat.
2a. Stitch the piping to the top edge of one pocket piece.
2b. Attach the second pocket piece to this.
2c. Fold the two pieces back wrong sides together and press everything flat.
2d. Topstitch 2mm from the piping.
3a. Pin the pocket pieces to the right side of an outer piece.
3b. Topstitch the sides at 0.5cm. Then topstitch again in the center to create two pockets.
When you're finished, you can reinforce the bottom by inserting craft rubber before closing the opening. I did this sometimes, and sometimes not. It's not necessary, but it does provide more stability and strength.
