This super cute and, above all, practical little bag can be sewn quickly and easily with our DIY instructions.

Whether from cotton fabric, faux leather, denim, cork, or canvas, this free pattern will also make a great gift for your friends in no time. It has countless uses, for example, as a cosmetic bag, pencil case, or for storing all sorts of odds and ends for your little ones.

We'll show you a girl's and a boy's version, made from our wonderful, cute, yet sturdy cotton fabrics.

Since this little bag requires very little fabric, it's also a great way to use up fabric scraps.

Fabric recommendations:
Cotton fabric, faux leather, canvas, decorative fabrics

You will need:
• Pattern (DOWNLOAD PDF HERE)
• Paper scissors
• Glue stick
• Fabric scissors
• Pins or Magic Clips
• Matching sewing thread
• Zipper in a matching color (continuous or 16 cm zipper)
• Hand sewing needle
• Optional: Faux leather/softshell/denim/corduroy, etc. for base reinforcement
• Ribbons/embellishments

Fabric requirements:
62 x 42 cm fabric

Print out the pattern and glue the sheets together in order along the red dashed line → edge to red line. Now you have the complete pattern in front of you and can cut out the three pattern pieces along the black line. The 1 cm seam allowance is already included in the pattern.

If you want to reinforce the bottom, cut out the corresponding pattern piece. Its width is the same as the outer pocket pattern piece. You can also adjust the height and shape as desired. Alternatively, you can sew the bottom separately.

To do this, cut the pocket and bottom pieces apart on the pattern and add a 1 cm seam allowance to both the top and bottom.

Now place the pattern pieces on your chosen fabric and cut them out.

These pattern pieces should then be in front of you: inner pocket pattern piece, outer pocket pattern piece, two small rectangles for the zipper ends, and if you like, the bottom of the pocket.

Start with the outer pocket pattern piece; you can decorate this with ribbons as you like, and reinforce the bottom with the extra cut pattern piece or connect the "extra bottom" to the outer piece at this point.

If you're using a continuous zipper, first shorten it so that it's slightly longer than the top edge of your bag, and then thread it through.

Once the zipper is threaded, it can be shortened to the exact length of the top edge. Also, trim the teeth on the right and left by about 1 cm so they are not in the seam allowance. To ensure that the teeth don't come undone, you can also sew them together.

Now the two small pieces of fabric are sewn onto the ends of the zipper. This conceals the unsightly ends and prevents the zipper pull from slipping out.

To do this, first fold your two rectangular pieces of fabric so that the short sides are on top of each other. The right side of the fabric should be facing outwards. This creates a crease in the middle.

Next, unfold the cut pieces again and place them on the zipper ends so that the fold covers the zipper teeth. The right side of the fabric should be facing the zipper.

Now sew both pieces of fabric onto the zipper.

Fold each piece of fabric back together towards the end of the zipper and stitch them down along the sides.

Your zipper should now look like this.

Now we come to the bag pattern pieces. Next, the pattern piece that will be on the outside (outer fabric) is placed right sides together with the pattern piece that will be on the inside (lining), and the zipper is inserted between them so that the top of the zipper is on the right side of the outer fabric.

Now sew all three layers together along the top edge. It's best to use a zipper foot for this.

This is what it looks like when you unfold it after sewing.

Repeat the same process on the other side.

Sew all three layers together again.

Now place your little bag in front of you so that the zipper is in the middle and sew the two sides together. To do this, press the seam allowance open and leave a turning opening in the lining.

The corners in the seam allowance are cut off after sewing so that they lie flat.

Next, press open the seam allowances, pull the fabric layers apart, and sew the resulting corners at 2.5 cm.

This is what it looks like afterwards.

Hooray, almost there! Now you just need to turn the little bag right side out and close the opening. To do this, pull the right side of the bag through the opening.
