Easy Tablet/Ipad/Laptop Pouch Tutorial

Easy Tablet/Ipad/Laptop Pouch Tutorial

How to Make Pouch Storage Case For iPad Or Tablet Sewing Tutorial.  DIY Easy Tablet/Ipad Case Sleeve.

Recently, I bought my daughter a new notebook computer for school, and she needed a little pouch to carry it in.  She carries it in her backpack, so I didn't need anything overly sturdy.  This soft-sided pouch is perfect for a light-use computer.
Her computer measure 12" X 8" X 1".  This pouch measures 12-1/2" X  9".  You can adjust the measurements to accommodate any sized notebook or laptop computer.

 Gather your supplies:
Two outer fabric pieces: 13-1/2" X 10-1/2"
Two inner fabric pieces: 13-1/2" X 10-1/2"
Two fusible fleece pieces: 13-1/2" X 10-1/2"
Two fusible interfacing pieces: 13-1/2" X 10-1/2" (SF 101 or other medium-weight interfacing)
Closure tab fabric piece: 7-1/4" X 6"
Closure tab fusible interfacing piece: 7-1/4" X 3"
Velcro: 2-1/2" piece
Basic sewing supplies such as a sewing machine, thread, sewing pins, scissors, seam ripper, etc.

***I patchworked a piece of fabric for the outer part of my pouch.  You can do that too, or simply use all one print for the outer part of the pouch.

Step 1: Iron fusible fleece to the wrong side of the outer fabric pieces.  Iron interfacing to the wrong side of the inner fabric pieces.

Step 2: On a short edge of one of your outer pouch pieces, find the center by folding it in half:

Step 3: Sew one part of the velcro strip 1" down from the top of that piece, lining up the middle of the
velcro with the middle of the pouch. Sew around all four sides, close to the edge:

Step 4: Lay out the fusible interfacing tab piece (fusible side down on the wrong side of fabric) along the center of the fabric tab piece:

Step 5: Iron each side down towards the middle of the tab piece:

Step 6: Fold that in half and iron:

Step 7: Open that piece back up and position the other velcro piece approximately 1/8" from the fold.
Sew in place close to the edges of the velcro:

Step 8: Sew the 3 sides closed by sewing a seam close to the edge as shown, leaving the raw edge open:

Step 9: Position the tab along the top edge of the other outer pouch fabric piece, and tack into place by
sewing a seam 1/8" from the edge:

Step 10: Take both outer pouch pieces and lay them out, right sides together.  Sew around 3 edges using a 3/8" seam, leaving the top open (two long edges and one short edge).  You will need to leave the edge
open that has the velcro and the tab on it.

Step 11: Take both inner pouch pieces and lay them out, right sides together.  Mark a 4" opening along
one  bottom short edge, as shown below.  (You will leave this part open for turning the pouch right side
out.)  Sew around 3 edges using a 3/8" seam, leaving the top open (two long edges and one short edge):

Step 12: Trim the fusible fleece as shown in the next two pictures:

Step 13: Turn the outer pouch piece right side out.  You will now place the outer pouch into the inner
pouch, as shown:

Step 14: Pin along that top edge:

Step 15: Sew along that top edge using a 3/8" seam:

Step 16: Turn the whole pouch right side out by pulling it through the opening in the bottom of the inner pouch:

Step 17: Stitch that opening closed by hand or machine.
Step 18: Top stitch along the top edge of the pouch to finish:

Congratulations!  You just finished your pouch!  All you need to do now is to add a notebook computer
and tote it wherever you need to take it!
Enjoy!
