Large Bag with Pocket Tutorial

Large Bag with Pocket Tutorial
 I suggest you sew a bag with a large pocket, which is closed with a flap.
Large Bag with Pocket Tutorial

We need two types of fabric of different shades, a bit of natural leather, lining fabric, woven interfacing, two zippers, a swivel lock for a bag, buttons, rivet and ready-made handles.
1. We cut: from a dark fabric a rectangle of 45 * 29 cm - 2 details;

    light fabric rectangle 45 * 16 cm -2 details;

    a light-colored fabric valve, 24 cm wide, 18 cm high, (circle the plate with these measures) -2 details;

     leather rectangle 33 * 12 cm –1 parts;

     lining fabric rectangle 32 * 42 cm (future pocket).

All the details are compacted with woven interfacing or interlining. As a rule, a genuine leather part is slightly deformed during compaction, so at this stage we dub the bottom to a size of 33 * 11 cm.

Let's start with a pocket that is on the front of the bag. Lay out the details like this.
We measure everything carefully: the detail of the pocket is located strictly in the center. Stitch. There is a little nuance here. Usually the line is laid with an allowance that is equal to the width of the sewing foot. In this case, the allowance is 1 mm less.
It turned out such a sheet.
Now we put the light and dark fabric together on the front sides and mark the place of the entrance to the pocket. The entrance to the pocket should be a couple of centimeters shorter than the width of the valve.
Line with the usual allowance for the seam (the width of the sewing foot).
It turned out like this.
Press up the seam.
We sew the sides of the pocket from the inside. Process the edges with a zigzag.
Front view
We sew the valve. For decoration on one of the parts of the valve sewn leather semicircle. Next, fold the valve parts face-to-face, stitch in a circle, while trying that part that will be at the bottom of the valve, as if to tighten - then the valve will not stick out. We cut off rounding points with teeth, so that there are no excessive bulges.
Turn and gently ironed.
We install on the valve the upper part of the rotary bag lock.
 First you need to accurately mark the location of the lock with a special rod for the skin and mark the part that needs to be cut. Also, tightly pressing the lock, we note the future holes for the screws.

How to install a lock on the bag

Cut out the extra part - you need to do it carefully, so as not to cut anything extra, constantly put the lock and check how close we are to the goal. Since the valve cut is not sewn up yet - we look from there, whether there are any allowances, which give excessive thickening. If there is - everything is neatly cut off.
Punch make holes for the screws.
We apply a lock to the front part, protrusions for screwing in screws should enter into the holes, apply the corresponding part to the wrong side and fasten the screws with a small screwdriver.

Install the bottom of the lock
Mark the location of the lock.
Making small holes. If you make a hole at least a little more - the lock will not stand still. Insert the antenna of the clasp into the holes.

From the seamy side we put on the washer and bend the antennae.

----------------------------------------

Mark the place of sewing the valve - 3 cm above the entrance to the pocket.
Lay the line at a distance of 4 mm from the cut. Next, turn the valve down and lay two parallel lines so that when the valve is raised, there is no visible cut.
Such access to the pocket.
For beauty and reliability, we put rivet.
We put the lower part of the rotary lock.
At the bottom we put 4 buttons (the upper parts).
Preparing the fabric for stitching. Everything is carefully measured - the bottom is exactly in the center.
We sew.
After assembly, align the canvas to a size of 45 * 91 cm.We fasten the zipper to the upper edge of the bag, while leaving several centimeters of the zip-free edge around the edges.
The end of the zipper fastener form so.
Sew bag handles.
To seal the bottom of the bag I use a very tight belt tape (you can take felt), stitch it with a large zigzag to the desired width. The size must correspond to the size of the bottom without allowances. We put the buttons (bottom).
Like this.
We compare and grind the side seams. We form the bottom.

From the lining fabric we cut the main canvas 45 * 83 cm, the details of the pockets 30 * 11 cm and 26 * 30 cm.
We consolidate all details with interfacing.On the lining make a slotted pocket with a zipper. On the seamy side of the burlap pocket (the largest piece) we draw a rectangle 1 cm wide and equal to the length of the zipper (I have 18 cm). Divide it in half, draw corners. Pin the pins to the front of the lining (face to face). Exactly around the perimeter of laying the line.
We cut along the middle line, in the corners we do this very carefully, so as not to damage the line.
Next, turn out the pocket and gently steamed. It turned out such a frame.
We put a zipper under it, fasten it with pins and lay a line along the edge of the frame.
From the seamy side we form a pocket, sew and do not forget about zigzag (it will be more reliable).
It turned out very neat zipper pocket.And in her purse never open pocket. We fold the prepared part in half face down and stitch along the perimeter, not reaching a few centimeters to the end (turning hole). Cutting corners.
We turn out the pocket, flatten the corners, iron out.
Pinning pins to the front of the lining, while the non-sewn part of the pocket should be at the bottom. We are stitching. The pocket turns out to be neat - all the cuts are hidden.
We grind the side seams, while on the one hand we leave a hole of about 20 cm. We form the bottom of the bag 9 cm wide. We grind. We do not turn out.

Build a bag. Do not forget to fasten an additional bottom to the main part of the bag. Insert the part from the main fabric face to face into the lining fabric part. With the help of pins we match the side seams, fasten with pins along the upper cut and grind off.

 The birth of the bag. We twist the bag through the hole in the lining. All neatly straighten. Sew a hole in the lining. Well ironed. Due to the fact that the lining is less than the base, the lightning for a couple of centimeters rolls inwards as I wanted.

Since the bag is rather laconic, you can add a few small items, such as a leather tongue on a zipper dog, leather stripes and holites on the seams, the leather zip edge ...
