How to Make a Tea Wallet. Whether you prefer tea or coffee, keep it handy with this colorful case. Use your favorite fabrics and brighten up your breaks.
Makes a great case for vitamin drink packs too. Keep one with your gym or yoga bag. Or use one for travel.
Materials
Quilting cotton
4 pieces – 7 1/2” wide x 6” high
Fusible Fleece
1 piece – 7 1/2” wide x 6” high
2” length of elastic cord or 1/4” inch wide elastic
1 – 5/8” button
Preparation
Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse fleece to wrong side of quilting cotton selected for the exterior.
If desired, quilt this piece.
With wrong sides together, fold two of the remaining rectangles in half to measure 7 1/2” x 3”. Press.
Assembly
With right sides up, place one folded rectangle on top of the interior piece of fabric, aligning it 1 1/2” from the bottom edge. Pin in place. Stitch.
Place remaining folded rectangle on top of inerior fabric, aligning it with the bottom edge. Pin in place. Stitch.
Stitch down sides to secure pocket edges using a scant 1/4” seam allowance.
Fold elastic cording in half. Attach ends of elastic to interior piece at right center edge. Be sure the loop points toward the center.
With right sides together, pin through all layers. Mark a 3 inch gap at the top for turning. Sew around all edges leaving gap open. Clip corners. Turn inside out and press. Slipstitch opening.
Edgestitch around all edges. Topstitch down center. Topstitch 1/8” from each side of center. Attach button to right outside edge. Secure wallet by slipping elastic cord over the button.
Fill with your choice of tea bags, instant coffee packs or vitamin drink packs. Enjoy!
NOTE: Seam allowance for this project is 1/4 inch.
Customize for left handed opening by switching placement of elastic cording to left edge.
