Ladies, I think you hear me when I say you can never have too many tote bags! We always need them- heading to the market, the gym or to the park with a magazine. They hold our knitting projects, the family’s beach towels, and double as our purse for the day!

Giant Summer Tote

Materials:
1/2 yard of 2 fabrics
3 yards cotton webbing
thread
marking pencil
cutting tools
sewing machine

1. Cut 2 pieces of fabric at 18” x 22”, from both exterior and lining fabrics. If you would like to add
interfacing, apply it to the lining fabric now. Set aside the lining fabrics.

2. Cut your 3 yards of webbing in half, giving you two 1.5 yard pieces.

3. With your exterior fabric, measure in 5” from each long side and mark a line from top to
bottom.

4. Starting with the line on the left, align the outside edge of the webbing along the marked line
from bottom to top, pinning in place as you go. Loop the webbing across top edge for the
handle and continue matching up with marked line on the right pinning in place as you go.
Make sure the ends of the webbing are flush with the bottom of the panel.

5. Stitch webbing down close to the edge on both sides, stopping 1” from the top edge. Repeat
for second exterior panel.

6. Place exterior panel right sides together. Stitch sides and bottom using a 1/2” seam allowance. Press seams open.

7. Repeat for interior panels.

8. Press the top edge of both exterior & interior over to the wrong side 1”

9. To create a gusset, turn exterior bag so the side seam is facing you. Smooth the bag out
so the bottom corner becomes a flat triangle. Measure up 3” from the triangle point and
draw a line perpendicular to the side seam.

10. Pin & stitch across the line. Repeat for the other side. Now repeat for the interior bag.
