Gathering scraps of fabric to sew an adorable cosmetic bag. Let's get started sewing a beautiful, neat, and lovely cosmetic bag for us girls!
To sew a bag, you need to prepare:
- Plain cotton fabric, patterned fabric
- Soft cotton lining fabric
- Zipper
- Ribbon
- Cardboard
- Tools: scissors, sewing needle, pins, thread, iron, sewing machine
Let's start sewing a cosmetic bag! Step one (1):
- First, cut the plain cotton fabric into 2 rectangular pieces 15cm x 25cm (A).
- Cut the patterned fabric into 4 rectangular pieces 7cm x 10cm, then cut a rounded corner (B).
Step two(2):
- Next, sew a loose basting stitch along the curved edge of the 4 fabric pieces (B).
- Cut a piece of cardboard into a quarter circle with a radius of 9cm. Place the cardboard on the wrong side of the fabric piece (B), and iron the curved edge of the fabric along the cardboard.
- Next, sew the two pieces of fabric (B) to the two upper corners of the long side of the piece of fabric (A), and cut off the excess fabric at the two corners of the sewn piece of fabric (A).
Step four (4):
- Similarly, sew the fabric (A) together with the remaining two fabric pieces (B). Cut the patterned fabric into a rectangle: 10cm x 25cm (C).
- Next, sew the fabric (C) between the two fabric pieces (A) to make a large rectangular fabric for the bag.
Step five (5):
- Cut a rectangular piece of soft cotton lining fabric that is 0.7cm smaller than the bag fabric size. Sew a quilting stitch along the curved edge of the 4 pieces of fabric (B).
Step six(6):
- Place the right side of the zipper on the right side of the bag fabric, pin it, and sew one side of the zipper.
- Cut the patterned fabric into a rectangular piece the same size as the bag fabric to make the lining fabric.
- Place the right side of the lining fabric on the wrong side of the zipper and sew a seam 0.7cm from the edge of the fabric.
Step seven(7):
- Next, sew the two fabric edges together with the other zipper side.
Step eight(8):
- After sewing, insert the lining inside the bag fabric.
- Cut the ribbon into a short piece, fold it in half, and place it on top of one side of the zipper. Sew a basting stitch to secure the two ends of the bag fabric and the lining fabric.
Step nine(9):
- Turn the lining fabric inside out. Divide the fabric tube into 8 equal parts and pleat according to the paper pattern.
- Finally, cut the patterned fabric into 2 rectangular pieces and sew them to cover the two ends of the bag fabric.
