These little bags are based on a Japanese pattern which was traditionally sewn by hand. Many people still like to hand sew them as they are fiddly to put together and hand sewing gives you more control over the work. I personally like to use my sewing machine as it speeds up the sewing.
If you are using a sewing machine make sure that you use the needle down function when pivoting and cut the corner to the needle down.
You do have to be very accurate in all your measurements. I measure every seam at 1/4" and mark the 1/4' at the beginning and end of each section. As the inner and outer section have to match it is very important to be accurate.
THREAD BAGS
These little bags can be sewn by hand or machine.
Requirements:

Colour 2 : 4 rectangles 7 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches
Bag 1: When sewn the pieces will form the configuration in figure 2
Sew a line of straight stitching stopping a " inch from edge as shown in figure 3. If hand sewing finish with a back stitch. Machine sewing, reverse.
Placing right sides together sew across pieces
As illustrated in Figure 4. Ending with a back stitch is sewing by hand or reversing if sewing with a machine. With an iron press work open. It should now look like Figure 2
Bag 2:
With the next 4 pieces of fabric, place them on to of figure 2 with RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER REVERSING THE COLOURS. Sew as for previous bag.
You will now have 2 bag pieces as figure 2 but with the colours reversed in each one.
Place bag 1 inside bag 2 , right sides together and match up tops, with colours alternating
Sew around the top of bag, matching points and seams as Figure 8. Leave an opening and turn bag through to right side. Push out points and hand sew opening.
