Easy Cosmetics Bag Tutorial. DIY Fabric Snappy Manicure Wallet Free Sewing Pattern and Tutorial.
Pattern pieces (dimensions in cm and including 1 cm seam allowance)
The bag is a great project for using up scraps; you can use it with various fabrics. I always use canvas for parts E, F, and H. If you don't, it's best to reinforce those parts with Vlieseline H630 for extra strength.
A = 23 x 10
B = 23 x 10 (not visible in the finished bag, so fabric choice is irrelevant)
C = 23 x 4
D = 23 x 4 (not visible in the finished bag, so fabric choice is irrelevant)
E = 23 x 13
F = 23 x 5
G = 37 x 15
H = 23 x 21.5 (round the top corners)
I = 23 x 36 (round the top corners)
! If you are using a printed fabric for part 1, cut the fabric so that the print is upside down.
Still needed
– Vlieseline H630 to reinforce part I
– Zipper at least 25 cm long
– Elastic 5 mm wide and 25 cm long
– 2 snaps or press studs
To do
(1) Place the zipper against the top edge of part A, right sides together.
(2) Pin part B on top of that, right side down.
(3) Sew with your zipper foot.
(4) Fold parts A and B away from the zipper and repeat steps 1 and 2 with parts C and D on the other side of the zipper.
(5) Carefully iron all parts away from the zipper, both front and back.
(6) Topstitch 2 mm from the zipper.
(7) Place this part with the back side on the right side of part E. Secure the left and right sides with a temporary stitch.
(8) Trim all edges neatly: remove the excess fabric and the zipper ends. Be careful not to cut away the zipper pull!
(9) Pin the bottom edge of section F to the top edge of this finished pocket piece, right sides together. Sew in place.
(10) Fold open, press the seam towards section F, and topstitch 2 mm from the seam.
(11) Iron section G in half lengthwise. Place one stitch 5 mm from the fold and another 8 mm from the first stitch. This will create a tunnel.
(12) Gather the bottom edge of section G. Do this the traditional way or the quick way.
(13) Insert the elastic through the tunnel using a safety pin.
(14) Let the ends of the elastic extend 1 cm from the tunnel on both sides and pin them securely.
(15) Now pin part G to part H. Make sure that the bottom edge of part G is sufficiently gathered and therefore the same width as part H. Reduce or increase the gathers by pulling on the gathering threads if necessary.
(16) Stitch the bottom and side edges of section G to section H with a provisional stitch. Also stitch three vertical lines on top of section G to form four pockets.
(17) Place the top edge of your pocket piece from step 10 against the bottom edge of sections G/H, right sides together. Pin and stitch in place.
(18) Fold open, press the seam towards part F and topstitch 2mm from the seam.
(19) Mark 5cm from each bottom corner of part I. Attach a snap or press stud.
(20) Pin your finished piece from step 18 to piece I, right sides together. Mark two stitch marks at the bottom (about 3 inches apart) to indicate your turning hole. Sew in place (but don't stitch between the stitch marks!).
(21) Trim the corners and turn everything through the opening. Iron thoroughly.
(22) Attach the snaps or press studs to the curves of the flap. Determine the position of the snaps by folding the bag closed.
(23) Sew the turning hole closed with an invisible ladder stitch.
There you go. Now the bag can be filled with nail polish and other goodies.
