Make Your Own Piping – it’s Easy

Make Your Own Piping – it’s Easy

Creative Daisy did a great tutorial on making piping, though I’d already made mine by the time I saw it. However, the zipper foot she used was different to the zipper foot that gets bundled in with lots of machines so I wanted to show you it was still possible if you have the regular kind of foot.

I will show you how to create piping by covering cording with fabric and then I’ll show you how to include it in your pillow construction. This tutorial assumes you already know basic pillow construction techniques.

Easy Summer Tote Bag Tutorial

Easy Summer Tote Bag Tutorial

Heading to sunnier climes to lie by the pool brings up that old dilemma – how to carry all that necessary stuff from room to poolside? Well, how about making a roomy carry everything bag for less than a fiver?

Frounchess Bag Tutorial & Pattern

Frounchess Bag Tutorial & Pattern

Yay! I’m so proud of this little bag. (Actually, it’s a medium-sized bag, but whatever.) I am very pleased to share with you, the Frouchess Bag tutorial and pattern.

This is a very ruffly bag. It is rufflioso. Heck, it might be a rufflerón. So if you like ruffles, or lots of pattern, or targeted busyness, you should go and make yourself one. (If you are a total minimalist, I can see how this wouldn’t be your thing.)

How to Sew an Exposed Zipper

How to Sew an Exposed Zipper

Honeycomb Smocking Tutorial

Honeycomb Smocking Tutorial

I think you could also call it Honeycomb Pleating.

I made this tutorial, because there really weren’t too many others out there, and I really like my method. The thought of pleating an entire piece of cloth back-and-forth and back-and-forth makes my hands feel all full and frustrated. My way is not that way. I would like to introduce you to the recycled Cheerios box method, in which a cardboard strip does most of the thinking work and the whole thing is laid flat rather than folded up in your hands.

Twinkle Twinkle Quilt Block Tutorial

Twinkle Twinkle Quilt Block Tutorial

I saw this block several weeks ago on flickr and fell in love immediately.  I wanted to make one that afternoon.  But wait!  The creator did not write anything in the photo description!  No name of the block, no link to a tutorial, no reference to the creator.  If I am to make this block, I need to break it all down and work out the math for myself.  To save you the same trouble, I thought I would share it with you in a tutorial.  Now, if any of you know the name and have a link to the original tutorial, please please please do leave it in a comment below.  Credit where credit is due. Until then, we’ll call this block Twinkle Twinkle.  Let’s get started.
