Lined Zipper Pouch Bag Tutorial

Lined Zipper Pouch Bag Tutorial

With this easy zipper pouch, you can have a safe place to store them. Plus, I don't know about your kids, but mine love having their own little bags and pouches to store things in. And use to smuggle toys to school in their backpacks.

You will need:

Coordinating fabric
Zipper
Sewing Supplies

First, cut out 4 rectangles of fabric, 2 from the main fabric and two from the lining. Mine was about 8 inches by 6 inches, but you can do whatever size you want. It needs to be longer than the zipper (or shorten the zipper).

Cut 2 scraps and sew them to each end of your zipper.

Trim to the same width as the zipper. The total length of zipper plus fabric should be equal to the total length of the top of the zipper pouch.

Match the right side of the zipper with the right side of the main fabric.

Then match up the lining and the main fabric right sides together. The zipper should be sandwiched in between. Stitch along the top of the pouch and lining and through the zipper. A zipper foot will make this easier.

This is what it should look like.

Press the lining and the main fabric away from the zipper.

Repeat for the other side, sandwiching the other side of the zipper between the lining and the main fabric. The main fabric should match up right sides together with the zipper.

Flip it over and line up the lining fabric.

The lining fabric will be right sides together (note-you will only be sewing through one lining piece). Sew through the lining, the zipper, and the main fabric.

Open it up and press.

Match up the lining right sides together on one side of the zipper, and the main fabric right sides together on the other side of the zipper. You will want to make sure the zipper is at least halfway unzipped.

Stitch all the way around the lining and the main fabric, leaving an opening at the bottom of the lining to turn. Clip corners.

Turn right side out and push the lining inside the pouch. You can either hand stitch or machine stitch the lining closed.
