Convertible Crochet Blanket Bag

 This convertible crochet bag uses a crochet zig zag stitch to show off the striping effect.


 Bag-Mat crocheted. A convenient model of the bag which transformered to the Mat. An indispensable thing for Hiking with a child.

INSTRUCTIONS

Note:  Ch 3 at beg of rnd counts as dc.

Ch 4. Join  with  sl st to first ch to form ring. See diagram.

1st rnd: Ch 3. Work 11 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.12 dc.

2nd rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in same sp as last sl st. 2 dc in each dc around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. 24 dc.

3rd rnd: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2). 1 dc in same sp as last sl st. *Skip  next dc. (1 dc. Ch 2. 1 dc) in next dc – V-st made. Rep from * to last dc. Skip last dc. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-5. 12 V-sts.

4th rnd: Sl st in first ch-2 sp. Ch 3. (1 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in same sp as last sl st–beg Shell made. *(2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc)in next V-st – Shell made. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.

5th rnd: Sl st in next  dc. Ch 3. *Shell in next ch-2 sp. 1 dc in next dc. Skip next 2 dc. 1 dc in next dc. Rep from * to last ch-2 sp. Shell in next ch-2 sp. 1 dc in next dc. Skip last dc. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.

6th rnd: Sl st in next dc. Ch 3. 1 dcin next dc. V-st in next ch-2 sp.1 dc in each of next 2 dc. Skip next 2 dc. *1 dc in each of next 2 dc. V-st in next ch-2 sp. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. Skip next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.

Join with sl st to top of ch-3.Rep last 3 rnds for pat, noting 2 rnds with "Shell in next ch-2 sp" will alternate with 1 rnd of "V-st in next ch-2 sp", until work measures approx 33" [84 cm] diameter. Fasten off.

Drawstring: Work  chain long enough to thread through ch-2 sps of each point around outer edge (see photo).
1st row: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch to end of chain. Fasten off.

Thread drawstring through ch-2 sps at each point of last rnd. Sew ends of Drawstring tog.

Handle: Work chain long enough to fit between 2 outer points of Blanket. 1st row: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch to end of chain. Fasten off.
Sew Handle to Drawstring  between 2 points.

Gather Blanket into Bag: Pull Drawstring and tie tog.
