This Be Mine quilt is a fun throw size quilt to make, and using Cotton + Steel’s Ombre Pigment fabric is a great way to create an ombre effect with the hearts. This is also the time to break out or build up your stash of black and white quilting cotton. You can also use solid fabric for the background, but the scrappiness of the black and white fabric is a lot of fun.
Supplies Needed
4 yds. of black and white quilting cotton for hearts and text
2 yds. of quilting cotton for background, including sashing and borders (we used Cotton + Steel’s Ombre Pigment Peony)
We chose these black and white fabrics:
Riley Blake Swiss & Dots Black
Mini Pearl Bracelets Licorice
Pixie Square Dot White
Susybee Gwyn the Penguin Dot
½ yd. of quilting cotton for binding
3 ½ yds.of quilting cotton for backing

All instructions are included in the pattern, and you may have noticed that there is a Y-seam in the Heart pattern. It’s not my favorite, but I promise it is worth it! By having the Y-seam, the Heart is one piece of fabric, meaning there is tons of fussy cutting potential, it’s perfect for showcasing large scale patterns and in this example you get a seamless ombre! It’s the last step for the Heart pattern, so it works out well to finish all the Heart blocks up to that point, then create an assembly line and finish them all at once.
This pattern can be adjusted as needed. More Heart blocks can be added to create a larger quilt, or widen the border. If time is tight, create a table runner by placing a Heart block before and after the ‘Be Mine’, and you have an adorable Valentine’s Day decoration.
