Rug Market Bag Tutorial

We sew a bag-shopper from a homespun rug without a pattern
Rug Market Bag Tutorial

Large capacious bags are the most relevant, in my opinion, it is in summer - trips, beaches, shopping - there are few interesting adventures awaits us at this time of year :)

Today I suggest sewing such a bag with your own hands. Without a pattern and from improvised materials. I used a home-made mat to measure the original size of 55 cm by 80 cm.

In addition, you need a cotton cut for the appropriate lining, a cotton lanyard for handles (100-130 cm), a wooden button for fastening and a monochrome thermalprint for decor.

You need to trim the fringe around the edges of the rug
Fold the mat in half along and we spread the lateral and lower seams. The edges must be swept so that they do not fall off.
We form the bottom of the bag, sewing the lower corners with two seams.
We cut off the superfluous, we cut the edges.
Similarly, we prepare the lining of the bag

We put the lining face outward on the outer part of the bag, which is made of a rug.

We turn the edge of the bag and sew on the button with one hand, then we prepare the loop that will be buttoned on this button. It can be made from braid, cord or from the remains of lining fabric.

We fill the section of the lining under the bend of the rug. The loop is placed symmetrically opposite the button on the other side of the bag. There, too, insert the edges of the lines that will be handles.
I made them standard for a shopper length of 60 cm + allowances. We chop all the details with pins or clips to securely fix them together.

We lay the seam on the machine along the very edge of the bend, it should be hit by a loop and both handles.
We bend the handles outwards and staple them at the top edge of the bag, fixing this position.
The bag itself is ready, it remains only to perform the final decoration with the help of a thermo pattern.

This is one of the easiest to use and practical versions of the thermotransfer - absolutely universal to the materials - it can be used on any fabric, leather, suede, leatherette, felt and much more.

Transfer, as usual, household iron. Cut such a print is not necessary, it is immediately ready for transfer and the background on it is not.

We place the picture on the product, warm up the iron to 160 degrees, turn off steam and iron for 15-40 seconds, pressing on the iron. The quality and strength of the application depends, in part, on the strength of the pressure, so ironing is better on a flat and firm surface.
