Easy DIY Fabric Storage Baskets

To make the tray and basket, swap the outer and lining on the second project. This way they coordinate and it allows each fabric to shine.

 CUTTING

FOR THE TRAY
From main fabric, cut: 35x45cm rectangle
From lining fabric, cut: 35x45cm rectangle
From fusible wadding, cut: 2 35x45cm rectangles

FOR THE BASKET
From main fabric, cut: 35cm square
From lining, cut: 35cm square
From fusible wadding, cut: 2 35cm squares

ASSEMBLY

1. Fuse the H630 wadding to the outer and the lining pieces. Lay the outer pieces onto a piece of Style-Will foam interfacing and attach with a narrow machine basting seam (See Pic A.)
Keep the fabric taut but do not pull or stretch it. When working with foam interfacing, cut the piece so that it is slightly larger than the piece that you are attaching, then attach it and trim the excess back. It is much easier  to it this way as all fabric stretches  and moves.

2. Use the appropriate corner template and a water-erasable marker to trace the shape onto each corner of both the lining and the outers. Consider basting just inside this line to keep the layers together for the next step (See Pic B.)

3. Cut the corner out. (See Pic C.)

4. Sew the corners to give the pieces their shape and volume.

5. Turn the foam-interfaced router so that the good side is facing out and place the lining inside the outer, then push the corners well down. You will notice as you stretch the lining onto the outer that it sits up a little high.

6. Hand-baste the layers together (see Pic D) and then trim any excess interfacing (see Pic E) from this edge.

7. Fold the excess lining over the outer and stitch around to self-bind the basket.

8. Remove the basting stitches.

9. Make the handle by cutting a piece of faux leather 1 x 10cm and folding it in half. Make a hole in each end.

10. Make a hole in the basket about 2cm down from the top and in the  centre. Line the two holes up and use either your rivet or Chicago screw to keep the handle on. (See Pic F.) Repeat for the other handles to finish.
