The yarn that I used was a T-shirt yarn again. I love it because it looks veeery nice and stylish, it’s just a perfect choice for summer accessories and it’s super easy to knit with. You won’t even notice when your clutch is finished!

Knitted Clutch — pattern

What you need:

2 cones of t-shirt yarn of different colors
    10mm knitting needles
    metal ring
    1 sewing needle

The bodice of the clutch:

Cast on 22 stiches with the main color.

Row 1: slip first stich unknitted onto the right needle. Knit all the stiches till the last one. Purl the last stich.

Repeat row 1 until the bodice is about 37-38 cm long (15 in)

Row 2: On the right side knit two stiches together throught the back loop (decline 1 stich), continue knitting till three stiches left on the left needle. Knit two together through the front loop (decline 1). Purl the last stich.

Knit the next row as Row 1.

Bind off the stiches.

The sides:

Cast on 6 stiches.

Knit just as the the bodice until the side is 10 cm (4 in) long.

Bind off the stiches.

Make two sides.

From the inner side sew the sides to the purse.

Tassel:

Using yarn of the second color cut ten stripes  about 20 cm (8 in) long. Take a ring and slip the stripes through it so that the ring is in the middle.

Take some extra yarn and tie the stripes to tighten them together.

Use the yarn of the first color to sew the tassel to the purse.

To make a strap follow this easy tutorial.

This strap is very easy to make using basic macrame knots but the result look really great and it will be a perfect match for a knitted or crochet purse or a jersey clutch and will be a nice addition to your summer outfit.

For a strap 20 cm long you will need: metal ring, a lobster clasp, 4 m jersey (t-shirt) yarn, sewing needle.

Step 1.
Thread one end of yarn through a lobster clasp. Make sure the ends of yarn from both sides are of the same length.

Step 2.
Thread both ends of yarn through a ring and fix it on a needed distance from the lobster clasp. That is the length of your strap. We need 20 cm here.

Step 3.
Now thread the ends of yarn through the lobster clasp again. Make sure the distance between the clasp and the ring is the same as needed. Place the long strands on both sides. Now you have four strands in the middle (the base) and two longer working strands.

Step 4.
Knot 1. Bring the right strand over the base strands and place the left strand on top of the right one.  Thread the left strand under the base strands and up through the loop made by the right strand. Pull the long strands to tighten the knot.

Step 5.
Knot 2. Bring the left strand over the base strands and place the right strand on top of the left one.  Thread the right strand under the base strands and up through the loop made by the left strand. Pull the long strands to tighten the knot.

Continue tying knots 1 and 2 till the end of the strap. With the sewing needle hide the ends of yarn inside the strap.

How to use it: You’ll have to sew the ring to one corner of the clutch and clasp the lobster clasp to the ring making a loop. This way you can wear it the purse on your wrist. If your want the strap to be on both sides of the purse you ‘ll have to use two lobster clasps for the strap and then clasp them to the rings sewn to both sides of the purse. I used this method for this purse.

    1. Hi elvira,
glad that you liked my pattern and I’m sure it will make out great!
One cone is 400-500 g weight and is about 100 metres.
You will need one full cone and one additional for the tassel. You can also use it to make a strap. This way you will be sure that two cones are enough for the purse.
