Leather Card Holder - 4 Tutorials

Leather card holder - 4 Tutorials
Leather card holder - 4 ways.  These combine leather and fabric for a sturdy and fun wallet.

Sewing with leather:
- use a leather needle
- a longer stitch length (like a 4)
- sew slowly

Personalize: try stitching an initial in the leather before you assemble the wallets, or use a sharpie to write on the leather (it doesn't rub off in my experience). I even cut the edge of the leather into fun shapes.

Please note: Most of the directions are identical, just the sizes of the fabric/linen and leather change

Horizontal Card Holder Version 1

Leather card holder - 4 Tutorials

Materials
- 2" x 4" pieces of leather (x 2)
- 4" x 5 1/4" linen or fabric
- 3 1/2" x 4" pieces of shape flex (x 2)
- white glue

1. Iron both pieces of shape flex on to the back of the linen. The linen should be larger than the shape flex on all sides.
2. Fold the linen in half, wrong sides together so that it measures 4" x 2 5/8". Use some glue on the shape flex to hold it together. Top stitch along the fold. *It's easier to fold the fabric when it is still warm from ironing on the shape flex.
3. Run a thin line of glue along 3 sides on the wrong side of your leather pieces - 2 short sides and one long side. Position the leather along the bottom open edge of the fabric. Repeat with the other piece of leather on the other side.
4. Top stitch down the sides 1/8" from the sides and bottom.
5. Trim sides and bottom slightly to clean up edges.
6. Run a thin line of glue around the sides and bottom, clean up excess with your finger.

Folded Card Holder

Leather card holder - 4 Tutorials

Materials
- 5 1/2" x 4" piece of leather
- 4" x 4" linen or fabric (x 2)
- 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" pieces of shape flex (x 4)
- fold over elastic
- white glue

1. Iron 2 pieces of shape flex on to the back of each piece of fabric. The fabric should be larger than the shape flex on all sides.
2. Fold the fabric in half, wrong sides together so that each piece measures 4" x 2". Use some glue on the shape flex to hold it together. Top stitch along the fold. *It's easier to fold the fabric when it is still warm from ironing on the shape flex.
3. Run a thin line of glue on the ends of the fold over elastic. Position them 1/4” from the edge. The elastic should not be stretched and should wrap to the wrong side of the leather by about 3/8”.
4. Run a thin line of glue along 3 sides on the back side of your fabric - 2 short sides and one long side, not the folded side. Position the fabric on the wrong side of the leather along one side. Repeat with the other piece of fabric on the other side (still on the wrong side). The folded side should be facing the center of the leather rectangle.
5. Top stitch down 1/8" from all sides. Move elastic out of the way when stitching
6. Trim sides to clean up edges. Trim top and bottom with scissors if necessary. DO NOT cut the elastic.
7. Run a thin line of glue around the sides, clean up excess with your finger.
