How to sew a cosmetics bag with a frame. Tutorial in pictures.

Materials: flax, cotton, interfacing, interlining, leather, tack and burr pocket reinforcer, zipper


I used a frame measuring 20x4 cm. The size of the finished cosmetic bag is 20x12x9 cm.

We cut out a rectangle from the main fabric, 31x33 cm in size. That is, 31 cm is the width, 33 cm is the height of this rectangle (in this case, the blue part + yellow).

We cut a rectangle out of interfacing 0.5 cm smaller on each side - 30x32 cm:

We fold the detail in half, stitch the side seams.

 

At the bottom of the part we make a cut and press the edges of the cosmetic bag on opposite sides.

 

To form the bottom of a cosmetic bag, we mark a square with a side of 4.5 cm in the lower corners. Bend as shown in the photo.

 

Stitch along the line and cut the triangle, retreating from the seam 0.5 cm.

 

For the lining, we cut out a rectangle with the size of 31x33 cm. Condense it with Vlieseline. The size of nonwoven 30x32 cm.

We fold the part in half, sew side seam. On the one hand, we leave a hole through which at the very end we will turn out an almost finished cosmetic bag.

 

Just as with the main part, we mark in each lower corner a square with a side of 4.5 cm, sew along the line and cut off the triangle, retreating from the seam 0.5 cm.

 

We turn to the upper part of the cosmetic bag, to which the zipper will be sewn.We cut out a rectangle with the size of 31x12 cm. We condense it with interlining with the same size of 31x12 cm. And cut it into 4 identical tapes with the size of 3x31 cm.

On one side of each rectangle draw a line, retreating from the edge of 7 mm.

 

Bend down on both sides of the rectangle of 1 cm and iron.

 

Take the zipper. We impose a rectangle on it, as shown in the photo, fastened with pins.

Do not forget about the bends of ironed, they should remain bent. On the other side of the zip fasten another rectangle. Face to zipper.That is, the zipper should be between two pieces of fabric.We scribble along the line drawn in advance, retreating from the edge of 7 mm.

Turn down and iron the details.

 

Stitched on the inner edge.

 

All the same we do with the two remaining rectangular parts and the other side of the zipper.

 

We turn out the outer part and fasten to it the top part with a zipper, as shown in the photo.

 

Open the zipper and fasten the upper part on the other side of the bag.

 

After that, turn the main part back on the wrong side, put the lining in it as shown in the photo.

 

We make a circular seam, stitching the outer part, the upper part with a zipper and lining.

 

We turn out a cosmetic bag through the left hole.

 

Sew a hole in the lining. This is what an almost finished cosmetic bag will look like.

We make the last circular seam along the upper edge of the cosmetic bag.

 

I fastened the edges of the zipper with a leather rectangle using holnitens(tack and burr pocket reinforcer). You can use rectangles made of cloth.

It remains only to insert the frame into the holes formed when sewing the zipper to the rectangles.

 

The photo frame is already inside.

 

From leather of the same color I sewed a decorative element. But you need to sew it at the very first stage, before bending and stitching the main part of the cosmetic bag.

Cosmetic bag is ready.
