Sew green baskets from oilcloth.
Organization is fun when you have nice containers to store things. Since these baskets are made of waterproof oilcloth inside and out, they can be easily wiped clean and are therefore ideal for the bathroom.
Material requirements:
- 2 different pieces of oilcloth that fit together (each 30 x 50 cm in size)
- Volume fleece or a piece of fleece fabric, 30 x 50 cm in size (lining)
- Sewing machine and matching thread
- Sewing accessories
Sew all parts with a 1cm seam allowance. This seam allowance is already taken into account in the measurements.
1. Both pieces of oilcloth and the fleece fabric are each cut to 30 x 50 cm.
2. First put the oilcloth pieces together, right sides together.
3. Then place the fleece fabric on top. Put all the pieces together. Then both short sides are sewn together.
4. Then pull the side seams towards the middle so that both side seams are on top of each other.
5. Then put it together. Now both long sides are sewn together. But...
6. ...leave an approx. 12-15 cm opening on one side without lining so that you can turn the basket over afterwards. The larger the opening, the easier it is for you to turn the basket. But don't turn around yet.
7. A 4 cm square is cut out at all corners. The side surfaces between the cut squares become the floor. Fold these two bottom sides flat so that a folded edge is created on the oilcloth. These folded edges then lie in the middle of the floor.
8. Then start with one corner and pull it apart. The seams of the side hem and the folded edge of the middle of the bottom are placed on top of each other so that they meet exactly. Then these are put together.
9. Then sew the corner together. You can then overcast the seam again to reinforce it. Repeat these steps for the remaining corners.
10. Turn the basket over. Be particularly careful not to tear the seams. Oilcloth is more delicate than conventional fabric.
11. This is what the basket looks like now... not necessarily like a basket but it will get there.
12. First the opening is closed with an invisible seam (mattress stitch). Stuff one half of the basket into the other and shape the corners. Then pull the basket correctly.
13. Then stitch the top edge, which you can now fold over. The basket is now finished.
